Getting Started
Strong Boxes
Begin Packing well ahead of the big move. Try packing a few boxes a day.
Choose a room to start. A room with low traffic, such as a basement, is ideal.
Don’t get ahead of yourself. Pack one room at a time.
Pack all items that you don’t need in your daily living first.
Pack similar items together and pack fragile items separately from heavy items.
Clearly mark on the outside of the box what room the contents are from and take the extra step of including contents on the outside of the box as well.
Wrap all breakables in bubble wrap or tissue paper. Only use newspapers to wrap items that have a protective coating to prevent ink smudges. White newsprint paper is ideal.
Once the box is full, fill in any gaps with paper to prevent shifting during moving. Try not to exceed 50 lbs per box and make sure each box is properly taped.
Secure all liquids in zip lock bags and pack separately from other items.
Remove all these items from drawers as well to prevent damage to furniture.
Packing Bulky Items and Other Tricky Items
Wrap drawers in a cloth and fill your drawers with wrapped items or clothes.
Cover other furniture pieces with a large cloth to prevent damage.
Use cardboard to separate wrapped mirrors, paintings, or other large flat items.
Roll carpet and secure with tape.
Secure all loose pieces of your refrigerator and wrap all coils & cords to prevent damage
When moving your washer and dryer, fill the drum up with items such as clothes or soft toys to prevent unnecessary movement while in transport.
Empty all items which require gas or other flammable materials. Have a question about an item not on this list? Please contact me at 412‐242‐1110 or email me at info@sigmundmoving.com to get expert advice on your specific need.
